Joe Mooney Summer School
The Joe Mooney Summer School was set up in 1989 following the sudden death of well known Drumshanbo personality - Joe Mooney - who during his lifetime promoted all aspects of Irish culture in his native County Leitrim.
The Summer School, which has grown in numbers and popularity since 1989, runs for a week in July and provides top class tuition in traditional music instruments - flute, fiddle, whistle, concertina, uilleann pipes, harp, button accordion, bodhrán, banjo, mandolin and piano accordion. Tutors are of the highest calibre and include internationally famous musicians such as Joe Burke, Noel Hill, Seán Ryan, Michael Tubridy to name but a few.
Set dancing, sean-nós dancing and 2-hand céili dances are taught, while singers are catered for with traditional and sean-nós singing workshops. Apart from workshops, the Summer School includes interesting talks/lectures, evening recitals, set dancing céilis, open air dancing and a Grand Traditional Concert.
