Primary School
Drumshanbo Central School opened in 1974.The Government policy at the time was to amalgamate the small schools in a parish, and provide transport for the pupils to one centre. There were five primary schools in operation in the parish of Murhaun until then. The largest of these was the town school which catered for approximately half of the pupils of the parish.The four rural schools-Aughagrania,Corderay,Cormongan,and Drumkeelanmore together catered for the other half. The table below shows the number of staff and enrolment in each school at time of amalgamation.

The new central school originally had six classrooms and six teachers. When Drumkeelanmore NS closed in 1975 the enrolment increased to 193.Two extra classrooms and an office were added in 1978. The highest enrolment was recorded on 30th September 1980- when for the first and only time it went over 300-representing approximately 135 families. In 1983 there were eleven teachers on the staff and the infant classes had to be accommodated in the old school until the numbers dropped. A special needs class was established in 1995.
In over thirty years since the Central school opened a total of 23 teachers have taught there.
