Christmas Message from Fr. Frankie

23/Dec/2019

Christmas 2019 Christmas is a time for family; for coming home, the excitement dancing in the eyes of children, the gifts that are wrapped and those who give the gifts, who are the best gifts of all. I welcome all of you who have come home this Christmas. The joy you bring to your family is more than you will ever realise. Our prayer at this Christmas time reaches out to embrace all those who are far away , those in nursing homes and hospitals and all those who care for them.I thank our school staff for not just teaching our young people but believing in them and giving them a reason to dream. In our community we have the Vincent de Paul, the Health Centre and the Fire Service who are always there when we most need them. This week the Spinathon team travelled to Dublin with 9,000 euro for Brother Kevin’s Capuchin Centre for the homeless, a gift from you, the people of our parish and beyond. I thank all those who make our Church a place of beauty, prayer and welcome.Carmel deserves much credit and also Johnny and we thank them both. We have three wonderful Choirs. To Maureen, Orla and Michael and to all of you who give of your time and your talents in our choirs, we thank you. Who will ever forget our wonderful Carol Service, with the children and the three choirs that led us to the threshold of Bethlehem with a tear in our eye. Thanks to our Counters and Collectors, our Ushers, our Altar Society, our Servers, Eucharistic Misters and Ministers of the Word. We couldn't do without you. Martin’s crib is a Christmas prayer for so many people that come to our Church. The Pastoral Council and the Finance Committee are a great source of guidance and wisdom for me and I thank them for that. Paula, Edel and Deborah thank you for the Christmas decorations. The Sister of Mercy and the Poor Clare Sisters create a space of listening, prayer and kindness. May the same blessing they are for us be with each one of them this Christmas. Finally, thank you to all the families and friends that make this little parish of Drumshanbo on the Shores of Lough Allen, a place that we love and a place that we can call our home. A person I didn't know said to me the other day “ You are the Drumshanbo Priest”. It felt like a blessing for me, and it really was, as it really is each day….. Thank you.I ask God to Bless each one of you this Chritmas.
